7 Months

Time sure flies. Kai has figured out how to roll all over the place since last month so this has been by far the most difficult shoot with him. Most of the pictures on my camera are either blurry or look something like this.

I did however get a few photos with his face in the frame. Distraction is a wonderful thing. Here we go.

His sticker lasted about 30 seconds before it was promptly ripped off and placed in the mouth...

Age: 7 months

Size: Onesies are still 3-6 months but pajamas and pants are mostly 6-9 months simply because he is so freakishly tall. Diapers: Still size 3

Height/Weight: A few weeks ago he was still in the 50% for weight but had climbed up to the 97% for height. This kid is growing like a weed.

Eyes: Grayzel. I think they might just stay this pretty color.

Hair: Brown

Sleeping: We've finally made a breakthrough! The breakthrough is that I nurse him between 2am and 3am and then I turn off his monitor and ignore him for the rest of the night. Call me cruel but I think if he were screaming hard enough I would wake up without the monitor. So I'm just going to assume if he wakes up again between 2-3am and 7am he just puts himself back to sleep.

Eating: This boy loves his solids. Well, he loves his fruit. Pear takes the prize for his all time favorite. If I'm feeding him pears then I switch to a spoonful of something like sweet potatoes or avocado he gives me an immediate look of utter betrayal and refuses to open his mouth anymore. Still nursing like a champ when we're in the calm quiet of a dark nursery. If we're out and about the distractions are far too tempting so we can forget about trying to nurse and I just make sure to pack plenty of other foods for him.

Likes:

  • Mary and Zedd(the dog and cat). He is literally obsessed with these two and every time he spots one of them a big smile creeps across his face. Every time they get on my last wit I calmly remind myself that they are going to be some of Kai's best friends growing up. Then my heart melts a little and all is forgiven.
  • Getting tickled and tossed
  • Pears(as mentioned)
  • Being held as long as we're always on the move
  • Piano music. Every day(sometimes twice a day) I take him up to the music room and play piano for him and he gets the biggest smile on his face when we open the door. He'll lay on the floor and listen to me play for as long as I want(which gives me a nice break as well).
  • His pacifier
  • Playing with his dad's face
  • Talking/screaming to himself
  • Being outside
Dislikes:
  • Getting his face wiped
  • Getting dressed
  • Vegetables
  • Being set down

6 Months

I cannot believe my baby is 6 months old. He gets spunkier everyday and loves to flirt. He is the loudest, squealiest(adjective. 1. An excessive amount of squealing and noise-making. 2. A made-up term that describes Kai to a T.), most talkative baby I have ever heard and I am a little scared for what the toddler years will bring.

Age: 6 months

Size: Clothing, 3-6 month
          Diapers, size 3

Eyes: Greyish, greenish, hazelish. I don't even know what color to call them. He went to the eye doctor today though and the doctor said there was very little pigment in his eyes so that's probably why they're still so grey.

Hair: Brown

Sleeping: Any progress we had made last month quickly disappeared after our trip to FL. I have been a walking zombie lately, getting up time and time again throughout the night and we finally did the crib transition about a week ago which complicated things even further. I finally decided I was going to have to sleep train him since there was no way we could keep going like this but I was dreading having to do it. I decided to gently wean him off of sleeping with his pacifier first(which produced some crying in and of itself). Last night was his second night completely without the pacifier and the miracle of all miracles happened. He woke up once to eat around 2am(which is when he normally eats) and every time he woke up other than that he soothed himself back to sleep! This has literally never happened in his entire 6 month life. It doesn't sound like much but when you're used to getting up 10 times a night, only having to get out of bed once in the middle of the night feels like such a luxury. I'm not getting my hopes up since it was only one night but it was one night of major progress!

Eating: We're finally on solids! He will tolerate just about anything I've given him but he is much more a fan of fruits than vegetables. No surprise there given his mama's sweet tooth.

Likes:

  • Getting tickled
  • Getting tossed in the air
  • This kid is obsessed with pounding his hands on computer keyboards. If he sees one anywhere near, he will do everything in his power to get his little hands on it and proceed to mess up anything you currently have running on your computer at the time. He does the same thing when I hold him near my piano.
  • Taking baths
  • Crazy sounds
  • Bouncing in his exersaucer
  • Throwing things off of his highchair
  • Getting licked in the face by the dog
  • Pulling on the cat's fur
Dislikes:
  • Getting dressed
  • Sitting still
  • Being set down

5 Months

As you can probably tell by the pictures, this kid has quite the personality. It is seriously so hard for me to capture a normal face with him(ahem, kind of like someone else I know *hint*, his dad). I get stopped by people in stores all the time commenting on how alert and expressive he is. He's a handful of crazy already but he gets more and more fun every day. I love this little guy. =)

His looks are changing every day and both Ryan and I agree that he doesn't really look like either of us anymore so not sure where he gets his looks from.

Age: 5 months

Size: Clothing, mostly 3-6 month
         Diapers, size 2

Eyes: Still grey around the outsides but looking more and more green/hazel in the centers so unfortunately I've given up hope of him getting his daddy's blue eyes.

Hair: Brown and starting to grow ever so gradually.

Sleeping: We've all been sick this past week so sleep has been a little rough but other than that we are slowly making tiny improvements in the sleep department. He probably only wakes up about 4-5 times a night now as opposed to the 10+ that we were stuck on for awhile.

Eating: Like a champ and wanting to breastfeed even more frequently now. We've tried introducing a few solid foods and he doesn't seem too interested(even though he happily tries to grab whatever food is on my plate when I'm eating) so we're just going to wait until he's ready.

Likes: Standing, bright lights/screens, being tickled, being tossed in the air, getting licked by the dog, his pacifier, going on walks, yanking my hair...yep..., and music.

Dislikes: Tummy time, loud noises, being put down...ever, and being bored.

4 Months

Kai with his cousin Rylie

Age: 4 months

Weight: 15lbs 3oz(50th percentile)

Size: Some 0-3 month and some 3-6 month

Eyes: Stillll grey.

Hair: Still has his brown newborn hair. Hasn't grown much hair and hasn't lost any hair since he was born.

Sleeping: Ah, sleep. What a beautiful distant memory. Sleep is pretty darn terrible right now and we're still trying to find a way to make it better. For the past month he wakes up every 15 minutes to half hour all through the night. Poor little guy has several teeth about to come through at the same time though so hopefully we'll get a little more sleep when the teething is done.

Eating: This little guy only eats for 3-4 minutes at a time every 3 hours like clockwork. This week though we're going through a growth spurt so he's been eating every hour. Around the clock. What a change.

Milestones: Grabbing, standing, teething, chewing on fists like mad, and eating rice cereal!
